News from NADIO: May 2025

It’s getting to be that time of year again…celebrations for graduating residents and fellows who have spent years at your institutions and preparing for the onboarding of interns, residents and fellows new to your institutions. Unfortunately, amidst those positives, the chaos and challenges around us continue. The LCME, ACGME, and NRMP are being challenged. Immigration and visa issues threaten many of our learners. There is uncertainty everywhere we look. This constant maelstrom in which we live makes me think back to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. For those of us who were DIOs then, these were certainly among the most challenging and stressful times we had ever faced in our professional (and personal) lives. One of the few good things that came out of that time was NADIO. Dealing with the pandemic forged a small community of DIOs that had started sharing ideas, problems, and solutions before the start of the pandemic; with the pandemic the size of the group expanded and it became more clear to all of us the importance of having this community to support one another in the important work DIOs do every day.
